PREVIEW: Cougars Set to Face Owls in Non-Conference Finale

HOUSTON– After two games on the road, the University of Houston Women's Basketball program returns to Fertitta Center for its Hoopin' for the Holidays game as it welcomes Rice at 1 p.m., Wednesday to close out non-conference action.

Fans are encouraged to wear an ugly Christmas sweater to enter the ugly sweater contest to win a special prize along with a meet and greet with Shasta Claus.

THE GAME

Houston and Rice meet for the 59th time in program history, and first time on the campus of the University of Houston for the first time since the 2014-15 season where the Cougars earned a close 59-58 victory over the Owls.
The Cougars lead the all-time series, 47-11.
This marks Houston's final non-conference game before beginning Big 12 action.

In its last meeting against the Rice, Houston dropped a 91-88 2OT decision at Tudor Fieldhouse. Laila Blair led the Cougars with 17 points, five assists and four steals.

The University of Houston Women's Basketball program dropped its first road game against rv rv Washington State, 95-48 at Beasley Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.
Houston was led in scoring by senior guard Laila Blair, who scored 10 points and posted four rebounds. The Houston native has scored in double figures in eight games this season.
Washington State's Charlisse Leger-Walker recorded a triple-double as the senior guard posted 15 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. She was one of five players in double figure points for the Cougs.

In the third NET rankings, the Cougars moved down to No. 93.
Graduate forward Bria Patterson (953) is 54 points away from reaching 1,000 career points with the Cougars.
Both Britney Onyeje (187) and Laila Blair (156) have their eyes set on the Houston all-time three-pointers made record of 226 set by Brittney Scott (2007-11).
A season after being the shortest team in the league and relying on its full court press to make teams uncomfortable, the Cougars are the 11th tallest team in the league this year an average height of 5-11.
