Cougars Take Road Win at UTSA

Houston earns second road win; continues road swing at Washington State
SAN ANTONIO – Free throws were the name of the game as the University of Houston Women's Basketball program prevailed with a 66-64 victory against UTSA at the Convocation Center on Thursday evening.
Houston (8-1, 0-0 Big 12) went 17-of-20 from the charity stripe, including 10 points in the final two quarters against UTSA (5-4, 0-0 AAC). Senior guard Laila Blair and graduate guard Laila Blair led the team with 14 points each.
The Cougars posted an 8-0 to begin the game, spearheaded by four points by senior forward Kamryn Jones. After a bucket by UTSA, Houston recorded a 10-2 run to end the first quarter.
Boyd took over in the second quarter, scoring 11 of her 14 points. The Cougars went on a 12-1 run heading into the locker room and forced 17 Roadrunner turnovers for 19 points in the first half. — does that make sense
As the Roadrunners attempted to make a comeback bid in the second half, the Cougars shot 83.3% from the free-throw line to secure their second road victory this season.
NOTES
The Cougars will close out their non-conference road slate with a trip to Pullman, Wash., to face rv Washington State at 4 p.m. CT, Sunday.
Houston then will return to Fertitta Center as it welcomes Rice at 1 p.m., Wednesday for its final non-conference game of the season.
Following the conclusion of non-conference action, the Cougars will open Big 12 Conference play as they face Texas Tech on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 1 p.m., inside Fertitta Center.
