Cougars welcome Tigers for 713 Day
HOUSTON– The University of Houston women's basketball continues its homestand as it welcomes Grambling State in its first-ever meeting at 2 p.m., Sunday for 713 Day inside Fertitta Center.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, give thanks by donating canned goods and receive free admission into the game on Sunday. Fans 12 and under can enjoy a postgame meet and greet on the court.

THE GAME
- This is the first-ever meeting between Houston and Grambling State.
- This marks the first meeting between Head Coaches Ronald Hughey and Courtney Simmons
- Bria Patterson, Laila Blair, Britney Onyeje and Kierra Merchant have scored in double-digits in the first two games of the season.
- With a win against Grambling State, Houston would be off to its best start under the direction of Head Coach Ronald Hughey.
- In its first meeting since the 2002-03 season, Houston defeated Sam Houston State, 106-65 inside Fertitta Center on Tuesday evening.
- The victory marked the program's first 100+ point scoring game since the 2009-10 season when it defeated North Texas, 104-65 on Dec. 5, 2010.
- This marked the second consecutive game in which the Cougars scored 106 points against the Bearkats. The last meeting against Sam Houston resulted in a 106-54 victory at Hofheinz Pavilion on Dec. 1, 2002.
- Six Cougars posted double figures as graduate forward Bria Patterson and freshman guard Kierra Merchant led the team with 19 points each.
- Houston ranks third nationally and first in the Big 12 Conference for points per game (102.5).
- Both Britney Onyeje (176) and Laila Blair (149) have their eyes set on the Houston all-time three-pointers made record of 226 set by Brittney Scott (2007-11).
- Graduate guard N'Yah Boyd (944) is 56 points away from reaching 1,000 career points.
- A season after being the shortest team in the league and relying on its full court press to make teams uncomfortable, the Cougars are the 11th tallest team in the league this year an average height of 5-11.
- Ahead of the 2023-24 season, the Guy V. Lewis Development Facility saw a face lift to the second story; the floor Houston Basketball has its locker rooms, team rooms and cafeteria.
