
#21 Volleyball Closes Weekend with Sweep of West Virginia

Cougars remain unbeaten in Fertitta with a three-set win over the Mountaineers
HOUSTON – The #21 University of Houston Volleyball team continued to roll, posting a second consecutive three-set win against West Virginia on Saturday afternoon in the Fertitta Center.
Houston (9-5, 2-3 Big 12) moves to 4-0 all-time against West Virginia (7-11, 0-5 Big 12) with the victory. The win marked the Cougars' 40th sweep under Head Coach David Rehr and gave Houston its 18th straight win in the Fertitta Center, the third longest streak in the country.
Graduate Abbie Jackson led the match with 11 kills, while junior Katie Corelli posted a 7-1-8 line for a .750 hitting percentage. Senior Kate Georgiades led the match with 20 digs, her fourth 20-plus dig performance of the season. Senior Annie Cooke used 20 assists in the match to tally her 2900th assist, while graduate Kenna Sauer passed the 1,000-kill milestone after posting eight, bringing her career total to 1,001. Graduate Rachel Tullos tied for the match lead with five blocks, including one solo stop, in the match.
SET ONE
While West Virginia took the first two points of the match, Houston raced back by winning the next eight to earn an 8-2 lead. Another 5-0 run from the Cougars later in the frame pushed Houston's advantage to 13-5, and Houston continued to control play late, cruising to a 25-11 set win.
Cooke posted 10 assists in the set, while Jackson tallied four kills and Sauer earned three kills. Georgiades helped stifle West Virginia's offense with eight digs, helping limit the Mountaineers to a .080 hitting percentage in the frame with an 8-6-25 mark.
SET TWO
Houston kept its momentum into the beginning of the second set, posting a 5-0 run to start the frame. West Virginia surged back with an 8-0 run to take an 8-5 lead, but the Cougars later evened the score at 11-11. The teams remained close with another tie at 19-19, but Houston used a 6-1 streak to win the set, 25-20.
Corelli and senior Kellen Morin went a perfect 4-0-4 in the second, while Tullos and Sauer both tallied two aces.
SET THREE
The Cougars won the first two points of the third and never looked back, not allowing a single tie score or lead change for the remainder of the set. A 7-0 run pushed Houston's lead to 12-3 and another 6-2 stretch later in the set extended the Cougars' advantage further, allowing the team to seal the sweep with a 25-16 set win.
Corelli posted another perfect set, this time earning three kills on three swings, while both Jackson and Tullos tallied three blocks.
UP NEXT
Houston concludes a four-match homestand with a two-match series against Texas next weekend. The teams faceoff in the opener at 1 p.m. Saturday on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, then conclude the set with a noon Sunday battle on ESPN.
