#21 Volleyball Gears Up for Battle with #7 Texas

HOUSTON – The #21 University of Houston Volleyball team continues Big 12 Conference play by hosting #7 Texas in the Fertitta Center this weekend. Saturday's match, which has been announced as the first volleyball sellout in the Fertitta Center, features a 1 p.m. first serve on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. Sunday's noon match will be nationally televised on ESPN.

The Cougars are coming off a pair of sweeps against West Virginia last Friday and Saturday. Friday's win gave the Cougars their first league win as members of the Big 12 Conference.

Fans are encouraged to wear black on Saturday as part of Houston's black out match. The first 750 fans in attendance will receive a black out t-shirt.

Students are still able to claim tickets to both matches. The first 300 students at both matches will receive a wristband to sit in the Cage. Students can pick up their wristbands at the top of Section 117.

As part of Alumni Weekend, Sunday's match is The Eras Match. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a limited-edition poster.

Houston entered the AVCA Poll last season for the first time since 1994 and tied its highest final ranking in program history at No. 17. In the preseason iteration of this year's poll, the Cougars were voted at #19 and have been ranked as high as #13 this season. The Cougars have been ranked in all eight polls so far this season and have been placed in 15 straight polls.
The Big 12 Conference ranked as the top volleyball conference in the country last year according to the NCAA's Conference RPI release and added three 2022 NCAA tournament teams in Houston, BYU and UCF on July 1. The Big 12 currently has six teams ranked in the AVCA poll with another receiving votes.
Houston went a perfect 14-0 at home inside the Fertitta Center last season, one of 18 teams to go undefeated and one of nine to win 14-or-more. The team's home win streak of 19 is the 3rd longest active streak in the country.
Kellen Morin captured the University of Houston's first-ever individual Big 12 Conference honors by being named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 29.
Morin has been a force for Houston on the net this season, leading the team in blocks in 11 of the 14 matches and ranking 22nd nationally with 1.37 blocks per set. Her mark aids Houston's ranking of 48th in the country in the category.
The Cougars held Liberty to a negative hitting percentage, the first time Houston held an opponent negative since Aug. 26, 2017 against Southern U.
After replacing the entire top five attendances in program history last year, Houston is on pace to replace at least the top three again this season, with the opening match against Texas selling out (first Fertitta Center Sellout in program history).
The Cougars are one of two teams with three players in the top 50 for career sets played among active players, joining Oregon. Houston's starting seven last match includes four grad students, two seniors and a junior.
