
New Program Top-10 Times Set at Dust Off Your Boots Invitational

Cougars open season against Texas in Austin
AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Houston Swimming & Diving program opened its season with solid performances at the Dust Off Your Boots Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

Freshman Elizabeth Jimenez set two new top-10 program times in her first collegiate meet in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native swam a 55.30 in the 100-yard back for 10th all-time, followed by a 1:59.17 in the 200-back for ninth all-time.

Following a successful 2022-23 season with the Cougars, sophomore Eden Humphrey earned first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:59.19 and placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle at 10:13.53.

Junior Adelaide Meuter set the tone for the Cougars in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 55.67 for first place, followed by junior Abbie Alvarez (2nd, 56.26) and sophomore Noor El Gendy (3rd, 56.54).

Freshmen Evelyn Entrekin and Nora Hetyei shined in their debuts, with Entrekin swimming a 1:02.74 for second place in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Hetyei also placed second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:05.89.

Sophomore Liya Goupil and senior Danielle Titus made their Houston debuts, with Goupil taking second in the 100-yard freestyle (52.17) and third in the 50-yard free (23.91), while Titus placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (56.67).

On the diving boards, senior Hedda Grelz placed fifth on the 1-meter with a score of 283.80, while fifth-year Chase Farris earned an additional fifth-place finish for the Cougars on the 3-meter after earning a score of 328.05. Both divers earned NCAA Zone Cuts in each diving event.
Freshman Michelle McLeod made her season debut on the boards, earning NCAA Zone Cuts on both boards.

Junior Josie Graves earned an NCAA Zone Cut in the 3-meter, while senior Emilia Waters earned hers in the 1-meter event.

From Oct. 14-15, Houston will split its squad with swimmers heading across town for the Rice Fall Splash, while the divers host Idaho, Incarnate Word and North Texas at the Houston Diving Invitational at the CRWC Natatorium with action beginning at 10 a.m., each day.
