Houston team captain among 20 semifinalists for Collegiate Man of the Year
HOUSTON – University of Houston Football team captain and starting center Jack Freeman has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, honoring college football's top leaders, the award's selection committee announced Wednesday.
Freeman is among three semifinalists from the Big 12 Conference and two from the state of Texas. The award, presented by Albertsons and Tom Thumb, is the first college football honor to focus primarily on a player's leadership, both on and off the field.
Freeman has been a mainstay both on and off the field, helping lead the Cougars to 23 victories since the start of the 2021 season. The senior has made 31 career starts since joining the program in 2018. This season, Freeman has not permitted a sack in 255 opportunities. He has started all six games and played 435 snaps.
Freeman earned his degree in Bachelor of Science, Fitness & Sports during fall 2022, having previously earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference's All-Academic Team. In his free time, has been active in the community including engaging with his hometown Midlothian Youth Football League as part of his passion to empower students to pursue dreams with confidence.
