
Squad Splits with Diving Hosting Invite, Swimming at Rice

Swimming will move across town to the Rice Invite while Diving hosts Houston Diving Invitational
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team will split its squad this weekend, sending the swim team to the Rice Fall Splash Invitational while the diving team hosts the Houston Diving Invitational at the CRWC Natatorium.Â

Swim will compete against Rice and Denver at Rice, while Dive will battle Denver, Idaho and North Texas.

LAST TIME OUT
Houston opened its season at the Dust Off Your Boots Invitational hosted by Texas in Austin. Freshman Elizabeth Jimenez made a splash in her first collegiate meet, setting a pair of top-10 program times in the 100-yard backstroke (10th; 55.30) and 200-yard backstroke (ninth; 1:59.17).

Sophomore Eden Humphrey earned podium placements with a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle and second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle. The Cougars swept the podium in the 100-yard butterfly, as junior Adelaide Meuter, junior Abbie Alvarez and sophomore Noor El Gendy touching the wall in order.

Freshmen Evelyn Entrekin (second place, 100-yard breaststroke) and Nora Hetyei (second place, 200-yard IM), as well as sophomore Liya Goupil (second, 100 free; third, 50-yard freestyle) and senior Danielle Titus (third, 100 back) all earned podium finishes in their respective events.

On the diving boards, senior Hedda Grelz and Chase Farris earned NCAA Zone Cuts with their scores that landed them each fifth place in the 1-meter and 3-meter, respectively.

BIG 12 HONORS
Jimenez earned Houston Swimming & Diving's first individual Big 12 Conference Honors this week, being named co-Newcomer of the Week after her pair of Top 10 performances in Austin, Texas.Â

NCAA CUTS
Five divers have earned NCAA Zone Cuts as Grelz (1-meter), Farris (3-meter), freshman Michelle McLeod (1-meter and 3-meter), junior Josie Graves (3-meter) and senior Emilia Waters (1-meter) all surpassed qualifying standards at the Dust Off Your Boots Invitational. They will compete on the platform for the first time this weekend.Â
