Swimming & Diving Returns to Action Against Miami, FGCU

Cougars debut 2023 with tri-meet in Coral Gables, Fla.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving program will open its spring schedule in Coral Gables, Fla., for a tri-meet against Miami and FGCU at 2 p.m., CT Friday from the Whitten Center Pool on the campus of Miami.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cougars closed out the 2022 portion of the schedule earning their sixth consecutive Phill Hansel Invitational victory on Nov. 19, 2022, where they achieved 10 program record top 10 times during the three-day competition. Freshmen Alondra Ortiz and Landry Hadder each earned an NCAA B-Cut in the 400 IM, while sophomore Henrietta Fangli earned the third B-cut of the invitational in the 100-yard breaststroke.
On the diving boards, sophomore Josie Graves took first place in the 1-meter with a final score of 293.20 and junior Emilia Waters earned first place in the 3-meter with a score of 331.75.
HISTORY WITH THE CANES AND EAGLES
The Cougars returns to the Sunshine State for the first time since the 2019-20 season when they defeated the Eagles at the FGCU Aquatics Complex with a final score of 204-142 (Nov. 2, 2019). Houston last faced Miami at the Whitten Center Pool with the Canes picking up the 147-95 victory (Oct. 13, 2012).
UP NEXT
Houston will close out its home schedule hosting Rice at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 28 at the CRWC Natatorium for Senior Day. The Cougars will honor their six seniors with a senior ceremony beginning at 9:45 a.m. Admission is free.
