GREENVILLE, N.C. – The University of Houston volleyball team used a three-set sweep of the East Carolina Pirates to remain a perfect 3-0 in conference play on Friday evening in Greenville, N.C.
Houston (12-2, 3-0 The American) used multiple scoring runs in the 25-23, 25-22, 25-19 win over East Carolina (5-10, 0-3 The American) on the road. The 12-2 start for the Cougars is tied for the best through 14 games in the David Rehr era, matching a 12-2 start in the COVID-delayed 2020 season.
Abbie Jackson tallied six service aces in the match, including five in the first set, which is a new season-high for the senior outside hitter. The mark is also tied for the most aces in a three-set match in program history, matching Getchen Klug's six against Texas Southern on Sept. 9, 1987. The total adds to her career number to give Jackson 127 in her four seasons with the Cougars, earning her sole possession of second place on the team's all-time list, only 13 away from tying Sami Sawyer's 140 from 1993-1996.
Jackson also led the match with 18 kills, while junior Annie Cooke paced the Cougars with 33 assists for the second straight contest. Meanwhile, junior Kate Georgiades continued her streak of matches leading Houston in digs with 12 on Friday evening.

Two quick service aces from Jackson gave the Cougars an early 4-2 lead in the first set. Later in the frame, Houston extended its lead to 18-10 on a 6-0 run that featured three consecutive aces from Jackson, a pair of kills from senior Rachel Tullos and a kill from graduate Kortlyn Henderson.
The Cougars ultimately took the set, 25-23, behind 11 points from Jackson and 10 assists from Cooke.
