Singleton, Kamassah, Matthews Lead Cougars to Victory

Cougars pick up second win of season over cross-town counterpart
HOUSTON – Two goals in the first half by forwards Janna Singleton and Nadia Kamassah led the University of Houston Soccer program to a 3-1 victory Sunday evening against Houston Baptist from Sorrels Field on the campus of HBU.
The Cougars (3-3-1) outshot the Huskies (0-5-2) 17-11 for the night, including a 9-5 advantage on net.
Senior Janna Singleton got things going for the Cougars in 20th minute thanks to a second chance goal, assisted by junior Adriana Hutson.
Less than 20 minutes later, junior Nadia Kamassah recorded her second goal of the season, assisted by junior Maddie Bowers, sending the match to halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
The Cougars sealed the victory in the 72nd minute when midfielder Caitlyn Matthews found the back of the net from distance, scoring her first goal of the season.
Houston Baptist's lone goal of the match was scored by midfielder Ryan Ford in the 72nd minute on a shot to the lower left of the net.
Senior Rylie Haussler saw action for the first time since February 2021, playing 34 minutes. Freshman Cassidy Hoang made her first career appearance in the 72nd minute, tallying one shot during 17 minutes of play.
UP NEXT
Houston will return to action at the Carl Lewis International Complex at 7 p.m. Thursday for its first American Athletic Conference match of the season, coming against South Florida as part of Hispanic Heritage Night.
Loteria will be played throughout the evening with prizes for the winners at the conclusion of the game.
Students can claim two tickets at no cost to all home soccer matches by presenting their student IDs at the gate.
