Cougars string together multiple long runs in first win of 2022
BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Houston beat LSU on Friday night after falling behind by a set thanks to 19 kills from senior Abbie Jackson and eight team blocks, winning 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-12, 25-22).

The Cougars (1-1) have now beaten LSU (1-1) in Baton Rouge in both opportunities (last 2004) and are 2-2 all-time in the series.

Junior Annie Cooke put together the first double-double of the season, tallying 41 assists with 10 digs. Junior Kate Georgiades tacked on a match-best 20 digs and the Cougars hit .258 for the match. Â

Graduate Isabel Theut supported Jackson with 13 kills of her own, Cooke added four without an error and sophomore Kellen Morin chipped in seven more kills.

SET 1
The Cougars clawed back a handful of times to keep the Tigers' lead to as little as one point, but a 6-1 run to close out the set by LSU helped the hosts take the first 25-19.

Graduate Isabel Theut led Houston with three kills in the set but as a team, the Cougars hit .150 in the set. Â

Jackson terminated seven of Houston's 13 kills in the second set and got some scoring help from the service line and blockers at the net as the Cougars rattled off a 5-0 run to move ahead 21-18 late.

Houston put together three blocks in the set and the offense hit .268 to take the first set of the season.

SET 3
LSU started the set on a 4-0 run, but Houston allowed just seven more points the rest of the frame. The Cougars put together a 15-1 run, with a 10-0 run included in the run, through the middle chunk of the set. Houston rattled off a 7-2 run to end the set.

Cooke spread the offense as Houston hit .393 in the set, the best single-set offensive production in the young season. Â

SET 4
The Cougars strung together a 6-0 run to win the match in the fourth thanks to four kills from Jackson, an ace from freshman Alana Torres-Rivera and a solo block by Jackson.
