Seven Cougars Recognized as CSCAA Individual Scholar All-Americans

Deininger earns second All-America honors, six pick up first ever career honors
HOUSTON – Seven University of Houston Swimming & Diving student-athletes earned College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America honors for the 2021-22 season, the organization announced on Wednesday.

Junior Chase Farris (Psychology and Journalism) was recognized for First Team Scholar All-America following her participation at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. Senior Jolie Blodgett (Biology), senior Katie Deininger (Mechanical Engineering), sophomore Hedda Grelz (Mechanical Engineering), freshman Josie Graves (Mechanical Engineering), Kathryn Power (Health) and sophomore Emilia Waters (English) were selected for Second Team Scholar All-America.

This marks Deininger's second selection for CSCAA All-America honors after receiving Honorable Mention for the 2018-19 season. Blodgett, Farris, Grelz, Graves, Powers and Waters were all recognized for their first time in their careers. This season, the CSCAA named 1,206 student-athletes to the Scholar All-American Team.
To qualify for First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must earn a minimum GPA of 3.50 and must have participated in their national championship. Second-Team selections also must earn a 3.50 GPA or higher and achieve a "B" time standard for the national championship or participate at a diving zone qualification meet.
As a team, the Cougars posted a spring GPA of 3.52 to earn Scholar All-America team recognition on Monday.
