Vargas to Compete at PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship

Freshman tees off Monday morning in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA – University of Houston freshman Logan Vargas will compete at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship when he tees off Monday morning.
As a true freshman in 2021-22, Vargas has competed in three tournaments with the Cougars. He opened his collegiate career with a 71 in the First Round of the Bentwater Intercollegiate on Oct. 11-13, 2021, at Bentwater Country Club.
Vargas is one of more than 200 student-athletes scheduled to compete at Union League Liberty Hill and The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale.
The Championship is a 54-hole, stroke-play event contested across five divisions from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs).

ABOUT PGA WORKS COLLEGIATE CHAMPIONSHIP
The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship (PWCC) was created in 1986 to highlight competitive golf programs at the most underserved and underrepresented Minority-Serving Institutions in the country and educate and inspire student-athletes to pursue career opportunities in the business of golf and beyond.
TEAM FIELD
Vargas will compete against student-athletes from Prairie View A&M, Morehouse College, Anne Arundel Community College, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Eastern Kentucky, Nebraska, Clemson, Idaho, Delaware, UConn, Towson, Coastal Carolina, UNC Greensboro, Ball State, Stetson, Drexel, Louisville, UNLV, ULM, Little Rock, Old Dominion, Kansas State, Missouri, North Carolina Central, St. John's, North Texas, Dallas Baptist, Charlotte, South Dakota, Evansville, Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, North Carolina A&T, Chicago State, Florida A&M, Texas Southern and Howard.

The Cougars will learn their NCAA postseason fate during the NCAA Selection Show, set to air at 3 p.m., Wednesday, on Golf Channel.
Six NCAA Regionals will be played May 16-18 at one of six sites across the nation. Those venues include Traditions Club (Bryan, Texas; hosted by Texas A&M); Champion Course – PGA National Resort (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; hosted by Florida Atlantic); The Course at Yale (New Haven, Conn.; hosted by Yale); The Reserve at Spanos Park (Stockton, Calif.; hosted by Pacific); Jimmie Austin Golf Club (Norman, Okla.; hosted by Oklahoma) and OSU Golf Club (Columbus, Ohio; hosted by Ohio State).
The top five teams and low individual not on an advancing team will advance to compete at the NCAA Championships, set for May 27-June 1 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
