South Florida spins perfect game, shuts out Cougars on Saturday
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Houston softball team dropped both games on Saturday to South Florida at USF Softball Stadium by scores of 4-0 and 2-0.
GAME 1
The Cougars (24-25-1, 8-8-1 American) were kept off the base paths entirely in the series opener that spanned one hour, 43 minutes but included a 17 hour and 13 minute delay. The two teams picked up play on Saturday and the Bulls (38-13, 8-5 American) starter Georgina Corrick picked up where she left off on her way to her second perfect game of the season.
Before the weather delay, the Cougars turned their 26th double play of the season, moving into a tie for most twin killings in the country. Houston is two double plays away from tying the program's single season record of 28.
USF scored all four of its runs off a pair of Houston errors in the third inning, accounting for four unearned runs on starter Hannah Todd's line.
GAME 2
South Florida won the second game of the series 2-0 thanks to a two-run third inning.
Houston got its first baserunner of the series on a first inning walk off Corrick and then got its first hit of the series off the bat of second baseman Becca Schulte in the second inning. The Cougars left the bases loaded in the third inning.
A close play at the plate would have kept it a one-run game in the third inning, but the USF runner was deemed safe by the home plate umpire, pushing the Bulls' lead to two runs.
UP NEXT
Houston and South Florida will conclude the series on Sunday with a new first pitch time of 11 a.m. CT due to inclement weather. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
