Third Inning Plagues Cougars Again

South Florida scores big in third inning, shuts out Houston for the third-straight game
TAMPA, Fla. – The third inning handcuffed the University of Houston softball team for the third-straight game as the Cougars allowed a crooked number in the inning on the way to a 7-0 loss to South Florida on Sunday at USF Softball Stadium.
A walk, two stolen bases and two singles helped South Florida (39-13, 9-5 American) score its two runs in the third inning.
The Bulls scored two more runs in the fourth inning after a lead off double came around to score before a passed ball and Cougar (24-26-1, 8-9-1 American) throwing error plated the second run. A three-run sixth inning made it a seven run game.
Houston's best threat of the series came in the sixth inning with a pair of baserunners and no outs. Designated player Emma Robertson collected her first collegiate base hit to open the inning and shortstop Rock Benavides was plunked. But a ground out and a double play ended the threat.

Houston returns home and ends its regular season schedule with a doubleheader against Texas A&M on Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at Cougar Softball Stadium. The Cougars' Strike Out Breast Cancer game will feature a t-shirt giveaway and other Breast Cancer Awareness promotions.
Fans purchasing a ticket to the doubleheader will also receive admittance to Houston Baseball's 6:30 p.m. contest against Rice by showing their original ticket purchase.
