Houston musters three hits in final road midweek of 2022
LAFAYETTE, La. – Becca Schulte homered for the 13th time this season but the University of Houston Softball team fell to Louisiana 5-1 inside Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park on Wednesday.
The Cougars (24-23-1, 8-6-1 American) mustered three hits and just four baserunners against the Ragin' Cajuns (35-11, 17-4 Sun Belt). Houston turned three double plays, bringing its season total to 25 which is the second-most in the country.
Louisiana's starter Meghan Schorman struck out eight Cougars and did not allow a baserunner until the third inning. The Ragin' Cajuns scored in three different innings and have now won 12 of their last 13 games.
Third baseman Baylea Myers singled in the third inning to break up the perfect game and Schulte homered in the fifth inning. Schulte becomes the second Cougar in as many years to hit 13 home runs. Catcher Kati Ray Brown added a two-out infield single in the seventh inning.
UP NEXT
Houston stays on the road and will face South Florida in the final conference series of the season Friday-Sunday.
