
Men’s Golf Ties for Fourth at Aggie Invitational

Senior Braxton Watkins ties for sixth for third Top-10 finish of season; Joined by Alexander Frances in Top 10
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Battling windy conditions and a challenging course all day, the University of Houston Men's Golf program tied for fourth at the Aggie Invitational with a 54-hole score of 911 at Traditions Club on Sunday afternoon.
With gusts up to 40 mph, the Cougars posted a team total of 304 on a day in which no team shot better than 16-over par and no individual shot lower than 1-over 73 on the 7,227-yard course.
Senior Braxton Watkins battled to a 77 Sunday but tied for sixth with a score of 222 for his third Top-10 finish of the season. The Winthrop, Ark., native joined Texas Tech's Andy Lopez.
Senior Alexander Frances led the Cougars with three birdies and posted the team's low round of the day with a 74. With that performance, the Stege, Denmark, native rose 11 places in the individual standings, tying for 10th at 225.
Playing as an individual, junior Austyn Reily tied for 30th at 232. Redshirt freshman Jacob Borow tied for 33rd at 233, while senior Andrew Gibson was tied for 43rd at 235. Junior Marcus Wochner tied for 61st at 239.
Host and 23rd-ranked Texas A&M swept the team and individual titles. The Aggies posted a team total of 887 to finish eight strokes ahead of No. 10 Arkansas.
No. 7 Texas Tech finished third at 898, while the Cougars joined No. 32 New Mexico in fourth at 911. No. 40 Louisville and North Texas tied for sixth at 914, while No. 43 Little Rock (916), Baylor (921) and Kent State (929) rounded out the Top 10.
Texas A&M's Walker Lee earned medalist honors at 216 and was the only student-athlete to finish at even-par or better in the tournament after shooting 75 Sunday.
Texas Tech's Ludvig Aberg finished second at 219, while Texas A&M's Sam Bennett finished third at 220. Texas Tech's Baard Skogen and New Mexico's Bastien Amat tied for fourth at 221.
UP NEXT
Following the Aggie Invitational, the Cougars will send individual student-athletes to compete at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic. That tournament will be held at Walden Golf Club on Lake Conroe in Montgomery, Texas, with 36 holes Monday and the Final Round on Tuesday.
Freshman Julio Rios Brache, senior Laurence Crea, redshirt freshman Drew Murdock and freshman Logan Vargas will represent the Cougars.
The Cougars then take their first step in the postseason when they tee off at the American Athletic Conference Championships on April 22-24 at Southern Hills Plantation in Brooksville, Fla.
The winner of the league' annual postseason tournament receives an automatic bid to NCAA Regional play, set for May 16-18 at one of six sites across the nation.
