
Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at Louisiana Classics

Junior Marcus Wochner ties for 13th at 5-under 211 to lead Cougars
LAFAYETTE, La. – The University of Houston Men's Golf program posted a score of 1-under 287 in Tuesday's Final Round and finished fifth at the Louisiana Classic with a 54-hole total of 856 at Oakbourne Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Marcus Wochner fired an even-par 72 on Tuesday and tied for 13th at 5-under 211 to lead the Cougars on the 6,898-yard, par-72 course. The Holte, Denmark, native drained four birdies in his round and enjoyed his third straight round of par or better after shooting 69-70 on Monday.
No. 21 Texas A&M captured the team title at 817 and finished 12 shots ahead of No. 25 LSU. North Texas ranked third at 844, while No. 17 Mississippi finished fourth at 856. Kansas State (857), Louisiana Tech (863), Mississippi State (866), Little Rock (870), Illinois State (873) and Rice (873) rounded out the Top 11.
Senior Alexander Frances tied for 21st with a score of 214. After shooting a 74 Tuesday, the 2021 All-American Athletic Conference performer saw his streak of consecutive rounds of par or better end at eight.
Redshirt freshman Jacob Borow tied for 27th at 216. Senior Braxton Watkins enjoyed the team's low round of the day with a 70 on Tuesday, thanks to three birdies in a 5-hole stretch midway through his first nine, and tied for 31st at 217.
Senior Andrew Gibson tied for 69th at 224.
Texas A&M's Sam Bennett posted a 66 in. his third straight round and earned medalist honors at 18-under 198. LSU's Garrett Barber finished second at 204, while North Texas's Diego Prone and William Paysse of Texas A&M tied for third at 205.

Following the Louisiana Classics, the Cougars return home to play host to their own All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas, on March 21-22.
From there, the team will host the prestigious Valspar Collegiate Invitational at The Floridian Golf Club on March 28-29. That tournament annually features the nation's top collegiate programs.
