Preparing for the NCAA Tournament this week, #15/15 Houston has posted a 29 -5 overall record with a 15-3 mark in league play for the program third regular-season title in the last four years. With three straight wins in as many days – including a 71-53 win over Memphis in the Title Game on Sunday – the Cougars successfully defended their American Athletic Conference Championship.
Houston also swept the regular-season and conference tournament titles for only the fourth time in school history and the first time since the 1991-92 campaign.
ABOUT KELVIN SAMPSON
In his eighth season at Houston, Sampson led the Cougars to the top of the league standings. He is the only coach in school history to lead his team to three conference regular-season titles in a four-year stretch.
After losing four starters from last year's NCAA Final Four squad, his 2021-22 team's impressive accomplishments came after losing Preseason All-American Athletic Conference First-Team guard Marcus Sasser and sophomore guard Tramon Mark to season-ending injuries in December 2021.
Sampson recently was named the American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for the third time in the last four years, becoming the only coach in school history to accomplish that feat.
Now in his 33rd season as a collegiate head coach, Sampson has compiled a 696-339 overall record with a 196-69 mark at Houston. He is one of only 16 coaches to lead multiple schools to the NCAA Final Four and ranks as the winningest coach in Houston career history with a .740 career winning percentage.
Sampson is the only coach in Houston history to lead the Cougars to seven consecutive 20-win seasons and has guided UH to the nation's second-best record (140-29) since 2017-18, trailing only No. 1/1 Gonzaga.

The Atascocita, Texas, native averaged 13.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per game to rank among the league's leaders in each category.
White is the only Cougar to start all 34 games to date this season and has scored 20+ points in seven games, including four of the last seven.
White poured in a career-high 28 points with 10 rebounds against Cincinnati on March 1 as the Cougars clinched The American regular-season championship and has tallied a team-best four double-doubles this season.
With his 20-point effort against Memphis in The American Championship title Game on Sunday, White was named the tournaments Most Outstanding Player and became only the seventh Cougar to earn that accolade.
In addition to his accomplishments this season, White has etched his name in the Houston records book. He became the winningest player in school history and has played in 118 wins entering the NCAA Tournament and has competed games in 145 games during his career.
