Cougars tip off vs. Wichita State at Noon, Sunday, inside Koch Arena; Game to air on ESPN
WICHITA, Kan. – Fresh off an impressive win, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program hits the road for a pair of games, starting against Wichita State at Noon, Sunday, inside Charles Koch Arena.
#14/15 Houston enters this weekend's game following a 70-52 win over UCF on Thursday night inside the Fertitta Center. That victory ended the Cougars' season-long, two-game losing streak.
Against the Knights, graduate guard Taze Moore led all players with 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds with three assists. Senior guard Kyler Edwards flirted with a triple-double, pouring in 10 points with nine rebounds and seven assists.
However, the star of the Thursday's win was senior forward Fabian White Jr., who posted 12 points with five rebounds and three blocked shots. With that victory, White became the winningest player in Houston history with 110 wins, moving out of a tie with Houston great Michael Young (1980-84).
White also tied point guard Galen Robinson Jr.'s school record with the 136th game of his award-winning career.
This season, Edwards leads the available Cougars with 13.7 points per game. White is averaging 12.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game and is tied with graduate forward Josh Carlton with 1.4 blocks per contest.
Sophomore point guard Jamal Shead paces the Cougars and The American with 5.4 assists per game and is second in the league with a 2.73 assist-turnover ratio.
MILESTONES
• By stepping on the court Sunday, graduate forward Fabian White Jr. set a school record with the 137th game of his career. He will break out of a tie with point guard Galen Robinson Jr., who reached that total from 2015 to 2019.

• Head Coach Kelvin Sampson was named to the Naismith Coach of the Year Award Late Season Watch List on Friday.
• After losing four starters from last season's NCAA Final Four team and losing two of the team's leading scorers to season-ending injuries in December, Sampson has led the Cougars to No. 14/15 national rankings, a 21-4 overall record and the top spot in the American Athletic Conference with a 10-2 record.

With Monday's release, the Cougars were ranked in the Associated Press poll for the 41st consecutive week, extending their school record. Houston has been ranked in every AP poll since Jan. 20, 2019.
This is the fifth straight season under Sampson in which the Cougars were ranked for at least one week. Houston finished at No. 6 in the final AP and at No. 3 in the final Ferris Mowers Coaches polls a year ago after advancing to the sixth NCAA Final Four in school history.
