Houston Leads, Earns Two Titles on Championship’s Opening Day

200-yard team medley secures fourth straight title
DALLAS – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team won two events on the opening day of action of the 2022 American Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday from the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium on SMU's campus.
The Cougars closed out the day with 154 points, 45 points in front of second-place SMU.
Houston earned its first points of the night in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a fourth-place finish securing 30 points.
On the boards, Chase Farris claimed the 3-meter title for Houston, its third title in the event in three years with a total score of 328.80. Farris led the way as five Cougars advanced to the A-Final of the event. Katie Deininger earned a third-place finish with 317.05 points, followed by Emilia Waters (4th; 299.40), Hedda Grelz (6th; 296.60). Jolie Blodgett rounded out the field for UH in eighth-place at 278.30.
The Cougars success continued in the 200-yard team medley securing their fourth consecutive win in this event. Kathryn Power, Henrietta Fangli, Adelaide Meuter and Emma Wright touched the wall in 1:39.48.
Action resumes Thursday with prelims at 10 a.m. (CT) and finals at 6 p.m. (CT) on ESPN+
