Swimming & Diving Defeats Tulane, 118-86

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving program defeated Tulane, 118-86, in its first home dual meet of the season posting nine first-place finishes on Saturday at the CRWC Natatorium.
The Cougars commenced the day taking first and second in the 400-yard medley with Landry Hadder, Virag Peter, Abbie Alvarez and Emma Wright placing first with a time of 3:47.65.
Freshman Eden Humphrey earned the second first-place finish of the day in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:19.93 and Maddie Wallin placed third place posting a time of 17:41.42.
Houston earned a top-two finish in the 50-yard freestyle with Anna Ervin placing first with a time of 24.23 and Mary Catherine Jurica following in second place at 24.31.
Freshman Alondra Ortiz earned her second first-place finish of the season in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:24.46. Sophie Anderson clocked in a time of 4:25.50 for second place.
The Cougars continued to show their dominance in the 100-yard butterfly with Alvarez taking first with a time of 55.73 and Adelaide Meuter taking second at 57.25.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Audrey McKinnon earned Houston yet another first-place finish with a score of 1:03.86. Peter placed second clocking in at 1:05.19
In its final relay of the day, the team of Wright, Jenna Kerkman, Ortiz and Jurica placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:36.30
On the diving boards, junior Emilia Waters earned a first-place finish in the 3-meter diving event and also earned a Zone cut. Katie Deininger placed second at 308.85 and Jolie Blodgett scored a 276 for third place.
Deininger wrapped up the day for the Cougars for the final first-place finish of the day against the Green Wave, placing first in the 1-meter with a score of 293.33. Waters earned her second podium of the day, scoring a 290.55.
UP NEXT
Houston will close out its fall season hosting the Phill Hansel Invitational Nov. 17-19 at the CRWC Natatorium. Fans can attend the three-day event free of charge with no student claim necessary.
