Marcus Sasser Named The American Player of the Week

Senior guard averaged 18.3 points and 2.0 steals per game to lead Houston to 5-0 overall record
HOUSTON – Leading the University of Houston Men's Basketball program to three wins over seven days, senior guard Marcus Sasser was named the American Athletic Player of the Week for the fourth time in his award-winning career on Monday.
Sasser helped guide the Cougars to wins over Oral Roberts (83-45, Nov. 14) and Texas Southern (83-48, Nov. 16) at the Cougar Classic inside the Fertitta Center and capped the week with a 66-56 road win at rv/rv Oregon on Sunday night.
ABOUT MARCUS SASSER
In three starts last week, Sasser led the Cougars with 18.3 points, 29.3 minutes and 2.0 steals per game. The Dallas native also finished second among the Cougars with 2.3 assists per contest.
Sasser started his week with 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting with a pair of 3-pointers and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds with an assist, steal and block in home win over Oral Roberts.
Against Texas Southern, he led all players with 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field and 8-of-10 shooting from the charity stripe. It was his second 20-point game of the season and the 13th of his career.
For his impressive performances, he was named the Cougar Classic Most Valuable Player.
Sasser followed that with a 16-point, three-steal performance in Sunday's road win at rv/rv Oregon, overcoming early first-half foul trouble to score 13 points in the final half.
This season, Sasser leads the Cougars with 16.6 points and 2.4 steals per game and ranks second on the team with 3.0 assists per contest.
UCF guard Taylor Hendricks was named The American Rookie of the Week while Brandon Johnson (East Carolina, forward), Kendric Davis (Memphis, guard), Damian Dunn (Temple, guard), Jalen Cook (Tulane, guard) and Sam Griffin (Tulsa, guard) were named to the Honor Roll.
