Seminoles Outlast Cougars in Overtime

Four Cougars score in double-digits, Houston falls to Florida State in overtime
HOUSTON – The University of Houston women's basketball team and Florida State needed overtime to decided Saturday's game which the Seminoles ultimately won 79-73 in front of 1,036 fans in Fertitta Center.
Senior guard Tiara Young forced a turnover with 10 seconds remaining in regulation, as Florida State (5-0) attempted to ice the game, and then scored a layup with four seconds remaining to force overtime.
Four different Cougars (1-3) scored in double figures and four different Seminoles dropped 10-plus points as well. Junior guard Laila Blair posted a season-high 19 points and tied a career-high nine rebounds to lead Houston while Ta'Niya Latson scored 21 for Florida State.
Graduate forward Tatyana Hill chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds, and seniors Bria Patterson and Young each added 11 points.
The Cougars started slow, scoring just 12 points in the first quarter, from three different scorers, but turned it around in the second quarter, putting up 23 points in the frame thanks to eight points from redshirt senior guard Britney Onyeje.
Houston held Florida State to just 11 points in the fourth quarter thanks to eight forced turnovers over the 10-minute period. The Cougars scored eight of their 17 fourth quarter points off Seminole turnovers.
Florida State went on an 8-2 run to open overtime and never let Houston tie the game over the extra five minutes of play.

Houston will head to warmer weather next week to play in the St. Pete Showcase on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. CT, Thanksgiving Day, against Portland and on Saturday against Florida at 11 a.m. CT. Both games will be streamed on FloHoops.
