Young scores 20 points, Blair scores in double digits for the fourth-straight game
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Houston women's basketball team led Portland for 32 minutes but ultimately fell 66-60 in its opening game of the St. Pete Showcase at Eckerd College on Thursday.
For the third-straight game, both junior Laila Blair (16 points) and senior Tiara Young (20) scored in double digits. Blair has now scored in double digits for the fourth-straight game. Young has now scored 20-plus in two of the last three games.
Houston (1-4) led by as many as 13 points in the game and led at the end of each quarter except for at the final horn. The Cougars turned the Pilots (3-3) over 26 times and recorded the second-most steals in a game this season with 17 steals.
The Cougars posted their season-best shooting percentage but were unable to stave off the Pilots' fourth quarter surge where Portland outscored Houston 23-10 in the quarter.

Houston remains in St. Petersburg and will take on Florida in its final game of the St. Pete Showcase on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT. The game will be streamed on FloHoops.
