Junior Santiago De La Fuente with Final-Round 67 to lead Cougars and tie for 10th
DALLAS – For the second straight day, the University of Men's Golf program lowered its team score, posting a 9-under 279 in the Final Round to finish with a 54-hole total of 850 at the Trinity Forest Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
Three Cougars posted sub-par scores led by junior Santiago De La Fuente's 67. Senior Austyn Reily finished with a 69, while senior Marcus Wochner added a 71 on the 7,372-yard, par-72 course.
Starting his day off No. 1, De La Fuente enjoyed a quiet front nine with eight pars and a birdie on No. 2.
The Mexico City native took off on the back nine. He started with a birdie on No. 10 and dropped a stroke with a bogey on No. 11.
After a par on No. 13, De La Fuente drained four straight pars on the way to a team-leading 67 and a tie for 10th at 6-under 210.
It was his third straight Top-12 showing after transferring from Arkansas Tech during the summer.
Wochner opened his Final Round with a pair of birdies on his first 12 holes and added his final birdie at the par-3 17th hole to finish with a 71 and tie for 20th at 2-under 214.
Reily began his day on a rough note with a bogey at No. 1. Fortunately, that would be the only blemish on his scorecard.
The Pottsboro, Texas, native quickly returned to par with a birdie on the par-5 second hole and moved into red numbers for the rest of the day with a birdie on No. 5.
Following six straight pars, Reily made birdie on the par-4 12th hole and added his final birdie of the tournament on No. 17 to tie for 64th at 222.
Super senior Braxton Watkins tied for 27th at 215, while sophomore Wolfgang Glawe tied for 54th at 220. Competing as an individual, redshirt freshman Ruben Lindsay tied for 79th at 227.
Little Rock captured the team championship with a score of 833 to finish three shots ahead of host SMU. Baylor (841), Furman (845) and SMU (B)(850) rounded out the Top Five with UTSA (859), North Texas (864), Sam Houston (865) and New Mexico (866) completing the Top 10.
SMU's Nathan Petronzio earned medalist honors with a score of 13-under 203 to finish two shots in front of Walker Crosby (Furman) and Vicente Marzilio (North Texas). Little Rock's Matteo Cristoni finished fourth at 206.
