Senior guard earns latest preseason honor
HOUSTON – University of Houston senior guard Marcus Sasser was one of 20 student-athletes nationally to be named to the Jerry West Award Watch List on Tuesday.
Now in its ninth year, the Jerry West Award recognizes the top shooting guards in NCAA Division I basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the preseason Watch List of 20 candidates.
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, in each of the three rounds, starting Friday, October 28.
In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2023 Jerry West Award will be narrowed to 10 and then in late February to just five. In March the five finalists will be presented to West and the Hall of Fame's selection committee where a winner will be selected.
The winner of the 2023 Jerry West Award will be presented on a to be determined date, along with the other four members of the Men's Starting Five.

ABOUT MARCUS SASSER
This was only the latest preseasor honor for Sasser. The Dallas native has been named to Preseason All-America teams by the Associated PressThe Almanac, Blue Ribbon College Yearbook, Dick Vitale and College Hoops Today.
Sasser also was named the American Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year and earned a place on the Preseason First Team in voting by the league's head coaches.
Sasser posted four 20-point games in his first 12 contests a year ago, including season highs with 26 points in wins against Rice and Northwestern State, before being sidelined for the remainder of the season following foot surgery in late December 2021.
Prior to that, he drained seven 3-pointers in the first half of the win against Northwestern State, tying the school record set by Robert McKiver against Charleston on Nov. 17, 2007.
With 180 3-pointers and 498 3-point attempts to date, Sasser is poised to set Houston career records in both categories as he prepares for the 2022-23 season.
