Cougars tip off vs. Pirates at 5 p.m., Saturday, as Houston looks for 36th consecutive home win
HOUSTON – Fresh off a mid-week win, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program wraps up its homestand when it plays host to American Athletic Conference rival East Carolina at 5 p.m., Saturday, inside the Fertitta Center.
This will be the only time during the regular season that the Cougars meet the Pirates. Houston knocked off Tulsa, 66-64, in Tulsa, Okla., on Jan. 15, in the lone regular-season meeting against the Golden Hurricane.
Standing at No. 10 in both national polls, the Cougars have won eight straight games. With a 5-0 mark in Americn Athletic Conference play, the Cougars stand atop the latest standings and have posted their best start as a league member with only the program's fourth 5-0 start in any conference play.
Senior guard Kyler Edwards leaves the available Cougars with 13.8 points per game and is one of only three student-athletes to rank among The American's Top-10 leaders and both scoring AND rebounding.
Graduate forward Josh Carlton stands third on the team with 11.7 points per game and leads the Cougars and The American with 3.3 offensive rebounds per game.

Houston has posted a 54-3 all-time record inside the Fertitta Center during the $60 million facility's history with wins in each of the last 35 games.
That ranks as the nation's third longest active streak, trailing only Gonzaga (61) and Liberty (44).
MILESTONES
• With Tuesday's win over South Florida, graduate forward Fabian White Jr. competed in the 105th win of his Houston career. He ranks second in Houston career history and trails only forward Michael Young, who set the school record with 109 wins from 1980 to 1984.
• White needs only one more home win to set Houston's Fertitta Center record with 44 victories during his career. White is currently tied with forward Brison Gresham, who enjoyed 43 wins from 2018 to 2021.
• With a baseline 3-pointer against South Florida on Tuesday, graduate guard Taze Moore reached 1,000 points in his career. The Cal State Bakersfield transfer scored 882 points with the Roadrunners (2016-21) and has scored 123 points in 16 games with the Cougars for a total of 1,007 to date. Moore may not be the last Cougar to hit that milestone. White needs only 39 points to become Houston's 49th 1,000-pointer scorer, and graduate forward Josh Carlton is only 43 points away.
STREAKING NATIONALLY
With Monday's release, the Cougars were ranked in the Associated Press poll for the 37th consecutive week, extending their school record. Houston has been ranked in every AP poll since Jan. 20, 2019.
It also marks the 88th week in which the Cougars appeared in the Top 10 in program history.
This is the fifth straight season under Head Coach Kelvin Sampson in which the Cougars were ranked for at least one week. Houston finished at No. 6 in the final AP and at No. 3 in the final Ferris Mowers Coaches polls a year ago after advancing to the sixth NCAA Final Four in school history.
