Cougars host South Florida at 7 p.m., Tuesday; look to sweep regular-season series vs. Bulls
HOUSTON – Following a gritty road win last weekend, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program returns to the friendly confines of the Fertitta Center to play host to South Florida at 7 p.m., Tuesday.
No. 10/10 Houston enters Tuesday's game following a tough 66-64 win at Tulsa on Saturday night. Down to seven available student-athletes and only three guards after sophomore point guard Jamal Shead was sidelined with an ankle injury less than five minutes into the game, the Cougars built a double-digit lead and held off several Tulsa rallies to move to 15-2 overall and 4-0 in American Athletic Conference play.
Senior guard Kyler Edwards led all players and established new career highs with 29 points and seven 3-pointers in the win. For his impressive performance, he was honored Monday as The American Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
With the win, Houston moved to 4-0 in league play for the first time as a member of the American Athletic Conference and only the sixth time in school history. The Cougars also collected their seventh consecutive victory and won for the 11th time in their last 12 games.
Edwards leads the available Cougars with 13.2 points per game, while graduate forward Josh Carlton stands second with 11.5 points per contest. The Winterville, N.C., native is tied for second on the team with 5.8 rebounds per game and tops The American with 3.5 offensive rebounds per game.
This will be the first of two home games for the Cougars this week. Houston meets East Carolina in the lone regular-season meeting at 5 p.m., Saturday.

FRESH LOOK
For Tuesday's game, the Cougars will wear their home white throwback uniforms against the Bulls.
Designed by Jumpman, these uniforms were first used by the 1959-60 Houston team and worn through the 1985-86 season. During that time, the uniforms were part of teams that competed in 14 NCAA Tournaments, five NCAA Final Fours and the iconic Game of the Century inside the Houston Astrodome on Jan. 20, 1968.
The uniforms' wordmark, stripes and shorts started with the Cougar teams of the 1960s starring Elvin Hayes and Don Chaney and carried through the legendary Phi Slama Jama teams of the 1980s with Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler.
The navy blue accents harken back to the Houston teams of the 1990s and early 2000s.
HOME SWEET HOME
Houston has posted a 53-3 all-time record inside the Fertitta Center during the $60 million facility's history with wins in each of the last 34 games.
That ranks as the nation's third longest active streak, trailing only Gonzaga (61) and Liberty (43).
MILESTONES
• With Saturday's win at Tulsa, graduate forward Fabian White Jr. competed in the 104th win of his Houston career, moving out of a tie with Galen Robinson Jr. for sole possession of second in school history. Up next in the Houston records book is forward Michael Young, who set the school record with 109 wins from 1980 to 1984.
• White needs one more home win to tie forward Brison Gresham's (2018-21) school career record with 43 home victories inside the Fertitta Center.
• Graduate guard Taze Moore needs only eight points to reach 1,000 in his career. The Cal State Bakersfield transfer scored 882 points with the Roadrunners (2016-21) and has scored 110 points in 15 games with the Cougars.
STREAKING NATIONALLY
With Monday's release, the Cougars were ranked in the Associated Press poll for the 37th consecutive week, extending their school record. Houston has been ranked in every AP poll since Jan. 20, 2019.
It also marks the 88th week in which the Cougars appeared in the Top 10 in program history.
This is the fifth straight season under Head Coach Kelvin Sampson in which the Cougars were ranked for at least one week. Houston finished at No. 6 in the final AP and at No. 3 in the final Ferris Mowers Coaches polls a year ago after advancing to the sixth NCAA Final Four in school history.
