Cougars tip off at 7 p.m., Saturday, inside Reynolds Center in lone meeting of regular season
TULSA, Okla. – Winners of its last six games, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program is back in action when it faces American Athletic Conference rival Tulsa at 7 p.m., Saturday, inside the Reynolds Center.
#11/11 Houston returns to the hardwood after taking a week-long break from its schedule. The Cougars enter this weekend's game following a 76-66 win over Wichita State on Jan. 8 inside the Fertitta Center.
Against the Shockers, graduate forward Josh Carlton led the way with 22 points and 12 rebounds with a career-high-tying four blocked shots. The Winterville, N.C., native posted his second straight double-double of the week on the way to being named The American Player of the Week, a first in his career.
This season, Carlton is one of five Cougars averaging double-digit points. He ranks third on the team with 11.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Senior guard Kyler Edwards is averaging 12.1 points per game, while graduate forward Fabian White Jr. is posting 11.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest.
MILESTONES
• With the win at Wichita State last week, gradate forward Fabian White Jr. competed in the 103rd win of his Houston career, moving into a tie with Galen Robinson Jr. for second in school history.
• Graduate guard Taze Moore needs only 15 points to reach 1,000 in his career. The Cal State Bakersfield transfer scored 882 points with the Roadrunners (2016-21) and has scored 103 points in 14 games with the Cougars.
STREAKING NATIONALLY
With Monday's release, the Cougars were ranked in the Associated Press poll for the 36th consecutive week, setting a school record.
Houston previously appeared in the AP Top 25 for 35 straight weeks from Nov. 27, 1967, through Dec. 16, 1969. The Cougars have been ranked in every AP poll since Jan. 20, 2019.
This is the fifth straight season under Head Coach Kelvin Sampson in which the Cougars were ranked for at least one week. Houston finished at No. 6 in the final AP and at No. 3 in the final Ferris Mowers Coaches polls a year ago after advancing to the sixth NCAA Final Four in school history.
