HARTFORD, Wis. – The University of Houston Men's Golf program fired an even-par 288 during Tuesday's Final Round at the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills to finish 13th.
Shooting par or better as a team for the second straight day, the Cougars moved up three places in the final team standings.
Making his Houston debut this week, junior Marcus Wochner – who joined the Cougars from Wichita State during the summer – posted a 1-under 71 on the 7,344-yard, par-72 layout at Erin Hills Golf Course to lead the Cougars in the Final Round and tie for 76th.
Senior and All-American Athletic Conference performer Alexander Frances tied for 29th overall to lead Houston during the three-day tournament at 2-under 214. The Stege, Denmark, native finished Tuesday's round with a 73.
Making his collegiate debut this week, redshirt freshman Jacob Borow posted a 72 in the Final Round and tied for 46th at 217. Junior Austyn Reily added a 72 of his own Tuesday and tied for 51st at 219, while senior Andrew Gibson tied for 72nd at 223.
Texas A&M won the team title with a score of 32-under 832 to finish four strokes ahead of South Florida. Purdue finished third at 838 while East Tennessee State (845), Kansas (846), Liberty (853), Notre Dame (854), Northwestern (855), Iowa (856) and UC Davis (860 ) rounded out the Top 10.
Individually, Texas A&M's Walker Lee earned medalist honors with a score of 14-under 202 to finish one shot in front of East Tennessee State's Mats Ege. Thomas Hutchison (UC Davis) finished third at 204, while Palmer Jackson (Notre Dame) and Albin Bergstrom (South Florida) tied for fourth at 205.
UP NEXT
Following the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills, the Cougars compete at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La., on Sept. 12-14.
From there, Houston will tee off at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 4-6 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. The Cougars will join with their UH female counterparts at that event, which will air on GOLF Channel each day.
