Cougars move to 1-0-1 in American Athletic Conference competition
HOUSTON – Houston Soccer, now 9-1-2, traveled to Tampa on Thursday for its second conference test of the season. The Cougars tied the Bulls of USF 1-1 with two bouts of scoreless extra time.
For the first time in program history, Houston was able to end the match with a tie against USF (7-2-2). The first goal of the night came late in the 26th minute by graduate student Zionah Browne who headed the ball into the net following a corner kick by sophomore Madison Gear.
The Cougars were able to hold the Bulls scoreless until Sydny Nasello put a penalty kick into the top right of the goal in the 89th minute to equalize and send the match into extra time. Both teams were unable to put another point on the board throughout the duration of both allotments of extra time.
Goalkeeper Mikaela Gracia and USF's goalkeeper Sydney Martinez recorded four saves and one goal allowed apiece. The two teams also recorded the same amount of corner kicks (5) and shots on goal (5).
Houston now holds a 1-8-1 record against USF seeing the best match against the Bulls since its 1-0 overtime win in 2004 at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
