
Houston Back in Action at Tulane on Wednesday

NEW ORLEANS – Winners of two of its last three matches, the University of Houston Volleyball program returns to action at 6 p.m., Wednesday, when it faces Tulane in American Athletic Conference action inside Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Cougars (11-3 • 1-1 American) enter Wednesday's match following an impressive 3-0 win over Wichita State on Sunday inside the Fertitta Center.
Against the Shockers, junior outside hitter Abbie Jackson led the Cougars with 14 kills and added 11 digs with three blocks. The Gig Harbor, Wash., native recorded her third double-double of the season to move into a tie with senior outside hitter Kennedy Warren for the team lead in that category.
Sophomore libero Kate Georgiades led all players with 18 digs against Wichita State for her eighth straight game with double-digit digs. The College Station, Texas, native posted 41 digs in Friday's American Athletic Conference opener vs. Tulsa.
It was the third-highest dig total in Houston single-match history and the most since Olivia O'Dell set the school record with 47 digs at Tulane on Oct. 7, 2015.
For her impressive performance, Georgiades was named The American's Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Jackson earned a place on the Weekly Honor Roll for the first time in 2021.
Georgiades leads the Cougars and the American Athletic Conference with 5.33 digs per set. Jackson ranks second in the league with 4.45 kills per set and stands third with 3.75 kills per frame.
Sophomore setter Annie Cooke continues to be a leader for the Cougars' offense, averaging 10.05 assists and 0.42 service aces per set to rank among The American's Top-Three leaders in each category.
Junior middle blocker Rachel Tullos stands second in the league with 1.29 blocks per set and joins senior middle blocker Isabel Theut among The American's Top-11 leaders in hitting percentage.
Wednesday's match will be the first of two regular-season match-ups against the Green Wave. Tulane visits the Fertitta Center on Oct. 27.
