HOUSTON – As the University of Houston Men's Basketball program continues to prepare for the 2021-22 season, the Cougars learned their First Round opponent at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational in November with the reveal of the tournament bracket on Tuesday morning.
The Cougars will meet Butler at 3:30 p.m. (CST), Nov. 22, inside the Lahaina Civic Center with the game airing on ESPN2. Houston's opener at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational will be the first time the Cougars face the Bulldogs in school history.
Following that game, Houston will take on the winner/loser of Texas A&M-Wisconsin at 4 p.m./1:30 p.m. (CST), Nov. 23 on ESPN or ESPN2 with the team's final game against Oregon-Chaminade-Saint Mary's-Notre Dame on Nov. 24 at a time and on a network to be determined.
The Cougars own a 53-32 lead in the series against Texas A&M but have not played the Aggies since the 2013-14 season. The series against Wisconsin is tied at 1-1 with the last meeting coming early in the 1965-66 campaign.
This will be the second time in which the Cougars compete at the Maui Jim Invitational. During the 2001-02 season, Houston met Top-Five teams UCLA and Kansas before taking a win over host Chaminade to open the year.

ABOUT THE MAUI JIM JAUI INVITATIONAL
In December 1982, then No. 1 ranked Virginia, led by National College Player of the Year Ralph Sampson, played little-known NAIA Chaminade University in Honolulu while on the way back from a trip to Tokyo. The Silverswords stunned Virginia 77-72 in one of the greatest upsets in college basketball history.
Two years later, in 1984, Chaminade University hosted the first Maui Jim Maui Invitational and it has proven to be the premier early-season college basketball tournament for 36 years running. Each year, the Maui Jim Maui Invitational attracts the top programs, best-known coaches and most outstanding players to compete in an exciting atmosphere at the Lahaina Civic Center near the beautiful beaches of Maui.
