Cougars conclude regular season
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team fell in its regular season finale to Tulsa by a score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.
Houston concludes its regular season with a 17-32 record and 8-16 in American Athletic Conference action, while Tulsa moves to 24-15 on the year and 15-8 in league play.
Junior Bethany Busch paced the way with a game-high two hits. With her solo shot in the third, redshirt senior Sarah Queen launched her 13th home run of the season, the most home runs in a single season since Courtney Klinger hit 14 in 2016.
Queen was joined by senior Charese Wyatt as those with a run batted in on the day. Wyatt drove home Busch for Houston's first run of the game in the second inning.
In the circle, junior Rachel Hertenberger and sophomore Megan Lee combined to surrender just three hits on the afternoon.
KEY INNINGS
2nd | After Busch collected Houston's first hit of the game, Wyatt drove her home with a single of her own to put Houston out in front first.
3rd | In the top of the inning, the Golden Hurricane tied the game after a wild pitch scored a runner from third, but Houston came right back, as Queen launched a no-doubter over the wall in the center to put the Cougars back in the lead at 2-1.
5th | A solo home run from Tulsa put the Golden Hurricane out in front, which proved to be the difference in the game.
