Ryan Hernandez (2-for-4), who homered in the fourth, started the ninth by shooting an 0-2 single into right field. Pinch runner Samuel Benjamin stole second and scored the winning run on the McMillan (1-for-5) single, sliding headfirst to beat the throw from right field.
Houston's Samuel Tormos (2-for-3) continued his weekend breakout performance, clobbering a solo home run to spark the Cougars' three-run fifth inning. Houston overcame an early three-run deficit while Derrick Cherry (2-3) earned his second win in relief.
Cherry protected Houston's lead, stranding two on a strikeout in the eighth, helped in part by a diving grab from Tormos. Cherry worked around three hits and allowed one run while striking out five in 3.0 innings.
With the win, Houston improves to 17-25 overall and 5-14 in American Athletic Conference play. Cincinnati, which tied the game with a two-out RBI-single from Joey Bellini in the ninth inning, falls to 23-21 overall and 12-11 in league action.Sent 'em home happy. 😃@IanMcMillan123 with the 𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙧. pic.twitter.com/nRtpxECwhP

Hernandez crushed his eighth homer of the season, cutting Cincinnati's advantage to 3-1 in the fourth. The long ball, which traveled 368 feet, was his 13th career and first since delivering three against UT Arlington on March 27.
Tormos's first collegiate home run traveled 353 feet down the left field line and trimmed Houston's deficit to one in the fifth. The base hit was the third in as many at-bats for the freshman on the weekend.
Houston totaled five hits in the fifth and took the lead on a first-pitch RBI-single up the middle from Will Pendergrass. Hernandez was plunked to tie the game. Kyle Lovelace, Brad Burckel and Tyler Bielamowicz also contributed singles in the frame.
Brandon Uhse stretched the lead to 5-3, lining an RBI-single down the left field line in the sixth. The play scored a hustling Tormos who reached for the third time in the game on a walk.
Cougar starter Ben Sears allowed nine hits and four runs in 6.0 innings while striking out three and walking one. The right-hander limited the Bearcats to 3-for-15 (.200) with runners aboard and 1-for-4 (.250) with runners in scoring position.
The teams close the four-game series at noon Sunday. Houston right-hander Carter Henry (1-3, 5.40 ERA) will face Cincinnati righty Jalen Wade (2-0, 8.20 ERA). Henry is one of six set to be honored at 11:40 a.m. as part of senior day ceremonies.
