HOUSTON – Cincinnati used a strong start and plated four in the eighth to spoil Houston's senior day with a 10-3 win in the four-game series finale on Sunday afternoon from Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
Houston starter Carter Henry (1-4), who was among six seniors honored pregame, went 3.0-plus innings, permitting five hits and as many runs while walking five and striking out three. Cincinnati chased Henry with a three-run fourth including two-RBI triple from Cole Harting.
The loss drops Houston to 17-26 overall and 5-15 in American Athletic Conference play. Cincinnati improves to 24-21 overall and 13-11 in league play.
Cougar center fielder Brandon Uhse (1-for-4) deposited a leadoff home run over the left field wall in the first and tied the game at 2-2 in the second on a sacrifice fly. The long ball, which traveled 368 feet, was his fifth of the season.
Houston reliever Maddux Miller matched a season high with three strikeouts while allowing one run alongside three hits in 2.2 innings. Cincinnati starter Jalen Wade (3-0) allowed six hits and three runs while walking three and fanning two to earn the win.
Cincinnati's Eric Santiago (2-for-5) clubbed his sixth home run of the season, putting the Bearcats up 2-0 in the first. The squad added insurance in the sixth as Joey Bellini contributed a two-out RBI-single to put Cincinnati up 6-2.
Ian McMillan (1-for-2) extended his hit streak to five games with a leadoff double in the seventh and scored on a wild pitch, trimming Houston's deficit to three. A strikeout and fly out ended the threat and an inning later, Cincinnati scored four times to stretch the lead to seven.
Senior Tyler Bielamowicz (1-for-4) extended his hit streak to seven games with a bunt single in the first. Will Pendergrass (2-for-4) notched his 10th multi-hit performance, reaching on a leadoff single in the second and two-out single in the sixth.
Houston closes its regular season slate with eight consecutive on the road. The Cougars open a four-game series against Memphis with doubleheader action starting at 1 p.m. Friday. The contest can be heard on Stretch Live with Jeremy Branham on the call.
