Houston Ready for NCAA Kingston Springs Regional

NCAA Regional begins First Round at Golf Club of Tennessee on Monday morning
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Golf program opens its postseason when it tees off at the NCAA Kingston Springs Regional on Monday morning at Golf Club of Tennessee.
Teams will play 18 holes each day on the 7,102-yard, par-71 course beginning with an 8 a.m., split tee start Monday and continuing through Wednesday. The low five teams and the low individual not from those teams at each of six NCAA Regional sites will compete at the NCAA Championships, set for May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
This is the 21st time in school history that the Cougars will compete in NCAA Regional play. It also is the 62nd NCAA postseason appearance in program history.
Eighty-one teams and 45 individuals not from those teams were selected to compete in NCAA Regional play.
In addition to the NCAA Kingston Springs Regional, the first stage of the NCAA postseason will be held at The Sagamore Club (hosted by Ball State, Noblesville, Ind.); Seminole Legacy Golf Club (hosted by Florida State, Tallahassee, Fla.); Championship Course at UNM (hosted by New Mexico, Albuquerque, N.M.); Karsten Creek Golf Club (hosted by Oklahoma State, Stillwater, Okla.) and Tumble Creek Golf & Country Club (hosted by Washington, Cle Elum, Wash.).

STARTING LINEUP
Under the leadership of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars will be represented by senior Alexander Frances, sophomore Austyn Reily, senior Luke Long, senior Matt Cole and senior Andrew Gibson.
All five student-athletes will be making their NCAA Regional debuts in the Scarlet and White this week. Cole competed in the 2019 NCAA Louisville Regional during his final season at Arkansas State.
This season, Frances leads the Cougars with a 72.55 scoring average and 10 rounds of par or better, including three in the 60s. He was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Team for the first time in his career earlier this month.
The Stege, Denmark, native has posted five Top-20 finishes in the seven tournaments in which he has competed, including a season-best fifth place showing at the Border Olympics, thanks to First and Final Round 70s.
Reily stands second on the team with a 73.45 average and is tied with Long for second with nine rounds of par or better. The Pottsboro, Texas, native, tied for third at the Rice Intercollegiate to open the year and enjoyed a 15th-place finish at the Border Olympics.
Long has posted a 73.55 average this season with a pair of Top-20 finishes, including a fifth-place showing at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational after lowering his score with each round, including a Final-Round 71, for a total of 217.
Cole will compete in his eighth tournament of the season and opened the year with a 13th-place finish at the Rice Intercollegiate. Gibson has enjoyed a pair of Top-20 showings in 2021, including a ninth-place finish at the season-opening Rice Intercollegiate and a 16th-place finish at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic.

PAIRINGS
For Monday's Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Loyola (Md.) and UConn.
Gibson will start the day for the Cougars off No. 10 at 8:55 a.m., Monday, with Cole (9:06 a.m.), Long (9:17 a.m.), Reily (9:28 a.m.) and Frances (9:39 a.m.) following.

The Cougars will play as the No. 10 seed and square off against No. 1 seed Clemson, No. 2 seed NC State, No. 3 seed Vanderbilt, No. 4 seed Arkansas, No. 5 seed San Diego State, No. 6 seed Virginia, No. 7 seed Charlotte, No. 8 seed Kent State, No. 9 seed UTSA, No. 11 seed Loyola (Md.), No. 12 seed UConn and No. 13 seed Iona.
James Piot (Michigan State), Ben van Wyk (Augusta), Evan Davis (Belmont), Van Holmgren (Florida Gulf Coast), Christopher Gotterup (Rutgers), Hunter Eichhorn (Marquette), Brandon Einstein (High Point), Hunter Fry (USC Upstate), Timothius Tamardi (Appalachian State) and Austin Devereux will compete as individuals.
NCAA REGIONAL HISTORY
This will be Houston's first team appearance in the NCAA postseason since 2017 when it finished 10th at the NCAA Stanford Regional.
In 2018, Michael Perras was chosen as an individual for the NCAA Bryan Regional, where he finished 24th. The 2020 NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During its history, the Cougars have enjoyed one NCAA Regional team championship, four individual titles and 14 Top-10 team finishes.
