Cougars prepare for tournament against AAC foes
HOUSTON – The Houston tennis team heads to Orlando for The American Athletic Conference Championship and will take on Tulane on April 23 at 11 a.m. CT to get the tournament started.
The event, taking place at the UTSA National Campus, has live stats found here and the Championship Final will be found on ESPN+.

2021 CONFERENCE ACTION
The Cougars went 3-2 in their five conference matches this season with victories over Wichita State, Cincinnati, and Tulane. The two losses came at the hands of Memphis and SMU.
Seeded fifth, the Cougars will face No. 4 Tulane at 11 a.m. CT on April 23 in the quarterfinals. That previous victory over Tulane came on March 19 in New Orleans.
Seeding was done by the final regular season ITA team rankings.
SEASON SUCCESS
Three individuals finished with double-digit wins during the regular season: Phonexay Chitdara, Azul Pedemonti, and Blanca Cortijo Parreno. Across the year Cougar individuals combined for over 70 wins and were well above .500 in singles action.
In doubles action, the pair of Pedemonti and Cotrijo Parreno led the team with 11 victories on the year mainly in the third spot.
TOURNEY HISTORY
The Cougars have played 12 matches in the past six AAC Conference Championship Tournaments. Houston owns a 6-6 record in the tournament and has advanced to the championship round twice, first in 2014 and again in 2015.
As Cougars Head Coach, Helena Besovic has only coached in one AAC Tournament, back in 2019, when the team fell in the quarterfinals to SMU. Last season's tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If the Cougars fail to win an at-large bid the team will have to wait until the NCAA selection show on Monday May 3 at 5 p.m. CT to find out if they've earned a bid. Those selections will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
