Incoming Cougar continues to earn recognition
HOUSTON – University of Houston incoming freshman, Kendall Brown continues to garner recognition with the most recent being named the Dallas Morning News' 2020-21 Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
"I am super excited for Kendall, her family and the Desoto family," said Head Coach Ronald Hughey. "I know how hard she's worked, the injuries and all the distractions that she has had to overcome over the last two years. To see her get something that is so well-deserved, proves that if you stay the course, continue the process, stay humble, work hard and most of all do what is right, great things will happen."
Brown capped off a stellar senior season, helping Desoto High School win its first state Championship. The Cougar signee played a pivotal role in Desoto's state championship run. Brown averaged 15.6 points in the final five games of the season, including a 19-points effort against Langham Creek in the regional final, 17 points against South Grand Prairie in the state semifinal and a team-high 12 points in the championship.
The Houston signee was tasked with guarding four-star Texas signee Rori Harmon in the title game, holding the guard to 6-of-18 shooting from the field and ultimately snapping Cypress Creek's 32-game winning streak. Brown closed out the season averaging 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals and an All-State selection.
