Houston Hosts Senior Day vs. Memphis on Sunday

Cougars tip off vs. Tigers at 11 a.m., Sunday, inside the Fertitta Center; Senior Day ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m.

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Basketball program wraps up its regular season when it play host to American Athletic Conference rival Memphis at 11 a.m., Sunday, inside the Fertitta Center.

Fans should note that Sunday's location recently was adjusted after COVID-related issues with Memphis forced the first scheduled matchup between the teams, scheduled for Feb. 14 in Houston, to be postponed.

In instances like this, The American's athletics directors agreed that, when possible, the next game will default to the home site of the team that did not have the COVID-related issues that led to the previously postponed game.
No. 9/7 Houston enters this weekend's regular-season finale as winners of four of its last five games with each of those victories coming by 17+ points.

Junior guard Quentin Grimes has been a leader for the Cougars in that stretch, averaging 23.4 points per game in that run. The Woodlands, Texas, native, who is a finalist for the Jerry West Award and a semifinalist for the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy for Player of the Year, has scored 20+ points in each of the last three games, including a career-high and Fertitta Center record 33 points in a win over WKKU on Feb. 25.

Senior forward Justin Gorham continues to lead the Cougars and the American Athletic Conference with 9.3 rebounds per game and is ranked fourth nationally with 4.3 offensive boards per contest.

Senior forward Brison Gresham will end Sunday's game as the winningest player in the history of the Fertitta Center. The New Orleans native has enjoyed a 42-3 record in games in the Cougars' home facility during his career and was the first Cougar to compete in 30 and 40 victories in the Fertitta Center.

SENIOR DAY
• Fans will want to be in their seats by 10:30 a.m., Sunday, as the Cougars hold Senior Day ceremonies prior to the game.
• Houston will recognize guard DeJon Jarreau and forwards Justin Gorham and Brison Gresham in a pregame event.
• During last three years, this trio has led the Cougars to two American Athletic Conference regular-season titles, two NCAA Tournaments, including a berth in the 2019 Sweet 16, and 76 victories.

• Fans can watch Sunday's game on CBS with Andrew Catalon (play-by-play) and Steve Lappas (analyst).
• Fans can hear Sunday's game on KPRC 950 AM or on the TuneIn app with Jeremy Branham (play-by-play) and Hall of Famer Elvin Hayes (analyst). The pregame show begins at 10:45 a.m.

ABOUT MEMPHIS
• Memphis brings a 15-6 overall record and 11-3 mark in American Athletic Conference play into Sunday's game inside the Fertitta Center.
• Tigers stand third in the latest conference standings through March 2.
• Memphis is 4-2 in road games in 2020-21.
• Tigers have won their last six games and nine of their last 10... Only a 67-65 loss at SMU on Jan. 28 prevents a longer streak.
• In its most recent action, Memphis claimed a 73-52 win at USF in Tampa, Fla., on Tuesday.
• Against USF, sophomore guard Boogie Ellis posted 18 points with five 3-pointers and added four rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals... Junior forward DeAndre Williams totaled 13 points with a game-high 10 rebounds and added three assists and two steals, while sophomore guard Lester Quinones recorded 12 points with seven rebounds.

• Head Coach Penny Hardaway is in his third season as head coach at Memphis and as a collegiate head coach.
• Hardaway has built a 58-30 record during his career.
• Hardaway has posted a 1-3 record against Houston in his career.
• Hardaway is 1-2 against Houston Head Coach Kelvin Sampson during their careers.
