The Owls enter the Cougars’ den for Friday afternoon match
HOUSTON – With only three games left in the regular season, the Houston soccer team welcomes Temple for a Friday matinee at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
Originally scheduled for Noon, the contest will kick-off at 1 p.m. CT. The Cougars are looking to rebound from a pair of losses last week as they enter the final stretch of play.
Friday's game will also represent the team's partnership with Vs. Cancer. All details of that partnership can be found below.
Streaming can be found here with live stats here.
RECORD GRANT
In her fourth season donning the Cougars uniform, Jazmin Grant continues to climb the Houston record books. Proving herself to be one of the most accomplished forwards in program history, Grant now ranks top-ten in ten offensive categories: points, points per game, goals, goals per game, assists, assists per game, shots, shots per game, shots on goal, and shots on goal per game.
An updated record book for the program can be found here.
The Atacostica, Texas, native has four goals and three assists this season as she has scored in three of the team's last five games.
STEADFAST FORMANEK
Since arriving to Houston in 2018, Cassidy Formanek has undoubtedly been one of the most reliable Cougars in the program. After leading the team in minutes played the last two seasons, Formanek is on pace to do the same as she currently sits at 700 minutes.
A junior from Denver, Formanek only has one goal tallied, but her impact on the field is much greater. Consistently ushering opposing offenses away from danger, Formanek is part of a staunch Cougars backline that has only allowed eight goals this season.
BATTLING CANCER
Friday's match-up will represent the program's partnership with Vs. Cancer as they strive to help the organization eliminate pediatric brain cancer. All fans will receive a yellow Vs. Cancer wristband to support the cause upon entry.
In Fall 2020, the team came together to raise $4,399 for the charity, far surpassing the team's stated goal of $3,000. Additionally, the team took the time to speak with Nova, a six-year old cancer survivor, and discussed her favorite Disney princesses as she showed the team her drawings.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Temple arrives to Space City with a 4-4-1 record as they come off a 2-0 win over Tulsa. The Cougars defeated Tulsa 4-1 earlier this season.
The Owls are led by Lexy Andres with six points coming from four assists and a goal. The scoring is evenly spread with four student-athletes each scoring a pair of goals so far this year.
UP NEXT
SMU comes to town for a midweek matinee on April 7 at 3 p.m. CT. The regular season will conclude against UCF on April 11 in Orlando.
