Comeback Falls Short Against No. 22/24 UCF

Cougars score twice in fifth inning
ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Houston Softball team entered the bottom of the seventh holding a one-run lead but was unable to secure the win as the Cougars fell to No. 22/24 UCF by a score of 4-3 on Sunday.
After trailing entering the fourth, the Cougars (9-18, 0-4 AAC) plated a run in the inning to tie score, before stringing back-to-back doubles in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead over the Knights (24-6, 4-0 AAC).
Junior Rachel Hertenberger got the nod in the circle on Sunday, tossing her seventh complete game of the season. She finished the weekend with a 2.69 in 13-plus innings of work.
KEY INNINGS
3rd | A solo home run from the Knights gave UCF the first lead of the game.
4th | With the bases loaded, junior Kati Ray Brown was hit by a pitch to drive in senior Sarah Queen and tie the score at one.
5th | Senior Tierrah Williams came off the bench a doubled home Queen from second to give the Cougars the lead. Sophomore Britaney Shaw then immediately followed with a double of her own to score another run and push the Houston lead to 3-1. In the bottom of the inning, UCF responded with a run to cut the Houston advantage to just a run.
7th | UCF scored twice in the bottom of the inning to seal the 4-3 walk-off win.
