Houston Reclaims 4x100 Title at Texas Relays

Cougars conclude jampacked weekend with PR’s and top-10 marks
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field program concluded a solid weekend of outdoor track & field action at the 93rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and the Victor Lopez Classic.
TEXAS RELAYS
The Houston men made a statement reclaiming the Clyde Littlefield 4x100-meter relay title. Nicholas Alexander, Travis Collins, Edward Sumler IV and Shaun Maswanganyi combined for an NCAA-leading time of 38.39. The time ranks second in the world this season and is the fourth fastest time in UH history. The Cougars recorded the fifth sub-39 second finish in program history to win the event for the third time overall and second time in the last three Texas Relays.
Cecilia Tamayo-Garza matched the fifth-best time in program history, securing a fifth-place finish in the event at 23.16. Camille Rutherford continues to have a fantastic freshman season, recording a personal-best time of 11.32 in the 100-meter to take fifth place in the final.
Maswanganyi took little time off, hitting the track again for the 200-meter and taking third-place in the event at 20.31 for the fifth-best time in program history.
Season-best continue to roll in for the Cougars as Dayo Akindele clocked a time of 13.93 in the 110-meter hurdles Invitational for second-place. In the long hurdles, Quivell Jordan finished second behind Cougar alumni Amere Lattin at 50.50.
Destiny Lawrence etched her name into the UH record book with a personal-best in the Triple Jump. She recorded the fifth-best jump in UH history at 12.90m (42-4).
Triston Gibbons had a big day, finishing second in the 'A' Men's Shot Put with a personal-best. He recorded a toss of 18.75m (61-6.25), matching the fifth longest throw in program history.
VICTOR LOPEZ CLASSIC
Regan Lobodzinski recorded a personal-best in the 5000-meter shaving more than 10 seconds off her previous lifetime best to win the event at 17:56.28. Madeline Castleberry secured a second-place finish at 18:01.49.
The Cougar men secured the top three spots in the 100-meter as Jeffery Hulon won the event at 10.97, followed by Lateef Birks Jr. at 11.02 and Alec Williams at 11.08.
HOUSTON ATTENDANCE POLICY
Limited tickets for Houston Track & Field will now be sold on a single-game, general admission basis while supplies last. Fans are encouraged to act quickly and purchase advanced single-game tickets prior to their arrival on campus due to limited availability.
All facilities and related spring sporting events will operate at 25 percent capacity of available seating throughout the remainder of the 2021 season.
For fans wishing to attend any of these home events this spring, an exclusive pre-sale ticket offer will be made available to existing season ticket holders and donors prior to the general public on-sale which begins on Monday, March 15 at 9 a.m. CT.
