Program Record Falls and Top-10 Times Highlight Alumni Invitational

Cougars honor Robert Platt Jr.
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field program closed out the Houston Alumni Invitational with a program record, top-five times in program history and a special presentation for Robert Allen Platt Jr.

The University of Houston Track & Field program honored Platt at the Houston Alumni Invitational by presenting the Platt family with Championship rings from the 2019-20 American Athletic Conference Championships that are inscribed with Robert's initials. The program also installed a bench dedicated to Platt that will be used at the Pole Vault areas inside Yeoman Fieldhouse and the Carl Lewis International Complex. In further remembrance of Robert, the pole vault runway at the Carl Lewis International Complex, will now be named the Robert Allen Platt Jr. Memorial Pole Vault Runway.
Mikaila Martin continues to be a force for the Cougars shattering her own program record in the Hammer Throw. Martin launched the hammer 65.46m (214-09) for a second-place finish in the event. Taylor Scaife followed right behind Martin notching a third-place finish with a toss of 61.67m (202-04).
The Houston women continued to put on a show with a blazing fast first-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay. Camille Rutherford, Brianne Bethel, Cecilia Tamayo-Garza and Tristan Evelyn combined for the third-fastest time in the NCAA this season in the event at 43.68. The time matched the third-fastest time in program history.
Travis Collins shattered the meet record in the 200-meter. In a loaded field, Collins clocked a time of 20.87 for first-place and matching the 24th fastest time in the NCAA this season.
Bethel had a strong day on the track, winning two individual event. In the 200-meter she clocked a time of 23.21 whichs ranks 14th in the NCAA this season. In the 400-meter, Bethel clocked the 11th-fastest time in the NCAA this season at 52.98.
The Cougars will return to action on April 9-10 in College Station at the Texas A&M Invitational.
HOUSTON ATTENDANCE POLICY
Limited tickets for Houston Track & Field will now be sold on a single-game, general admission basis while supplies last.
All facilities and related spring sporting events will operate at 25 percent capacity of available seating throughout the remainder of the 2021 season.
