Cougars Prepared for Sunday's AAC Battle
HOUSTON - Coming off a 2-0 shutout on Thursday, the Houston soccer team returns to American Athletic Conference action on Sunday at Noon CT against the No. 18 Memphis Tigers.
The Cougars, who have not allowed a goal in their past two games, are outscoring opponents 13-2 this season. With three victories after only five games, the program is off to its best start since 2017 when team achieved the same 3-1-1 record through five games.
On Thursday, the Cougars handily defeated Rice behind two first half goals, the first by Jazmin Grant and the second from Adriana Hutson.

BRICK WALL
Goalkeeper Salma Ghazal earned her second consecutive shutout on Thursday with two straight dominant performances over UTSA and Rice. Ghazal made another three saves this week to bring her season total up to nine.
In the team's last four games dating back to February 10, Ghazal has allowed only one goal. The Sugar Land, Texas, native was named to the conference honor roll last week after the UTSA shutout.
GREAT GRANT
Senior Jazmin Grant led the Cougars on Thursday night as she played a role in both scores. Grant notched the 8th minute goal before assisting on Adrianna Huston's 23rd minute score.
Grant, an Atascocita, Texas, native was a preseason conference honoree. In her career Grant has 16 goals and 11 assists for the Cougars.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Ranked 18th in the nation by the United Soccer Coaches, Memphis is unbeaten at home through three games. The Tigers are led by Clarisa Larisey and Grace Stordy who both have two goals this season.
Memphis came out on top of the team's last match in 2019 with the last Houston victory coming before head coach Diego Bocanegra arrived in town.
UP NEXT
Houston has a week layoff before returning home on Sunday, March 21, against Tulsa. The conference home opener will also be the program's 2021 Senior Day.
