Houston Returns to American Athletic Conference Play

Cougars face USF at 6 p.m. (CST) Wednesday, inside Yuengling Center in Tampa, Fla.
TAMPA, Fla. – Fresh off a big win, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program returns to American Athletic Conference play when it meets USF at 6 p.m. (CST) Wednesday, inside the Yuengling Center.
Wednesday's game features the top two offensive rebounding and rebounding margin teams in the American Athletic Conference. The Cougars league the league with 15.3 offensive boards and a +10.4 margin per game. The Bulls stand second in both categories at 13.0 orpg and +6.8, respectively.
The Cougars, who stood at No. 8 in the latest Associated Press poll and at No. 7 in the most recent Ferris Mowers Coaches poll, enter this week's game after a 112-46 win over Our Lady of the Lake on Saturday afternoon inside the Fertitta Center.
Sophomore guard Cameron Tyson set a Houston record with 10 3-pointers on the way to a career-high 32 points for his second 30-point game of the season. He became the first Cougar with multiple 30-point games in a season since guard Rob Gray enjoyed six during the 2017-18 season.
Freshman guard Jamal Shead did a little of everything well and fell just shy of a quadruple-double. The Manor, Texas, native posted 20 points with a game-high 11 assists, nine rebounds and eight steals total.
His steals total tied as the second-highest mark in Houston single-game history, trailing only Houston legend Clyde Drexler's 11 at Syracuse, during the 1982-83 season.
Redshirt freshman forward J'Wan Roberts totaled 10 points with 11 rebounds, while freshman center Kiyron Powell posted 11 points with a game-high 13 rebounds. It was the first double-doubles for both in their young collegiate careers.
