Houston to compete at Texas State Invitational

Maria Jose Martinez, Zoe Slaughter and Delaney Martin to compete as individuals beginning Monday
KYLE, Texas – Three University of Houston Women's Golfers will compete as individuals during the Texas State Invitational at Plum Creek Golf Course, beginning Monday morning.
Junior Maria Jose Martinez and freshmen Zoe Slaughter and Delaney Martin will represent the Cougars during the two-day, 54-hole event. Each day begins with an 8 a.m., shotgun start.

THE FIELD
The Cougars will compete against Tulsa, Rutgers, Wichita State, Idaho, UTSA, Lamar, Little Rock, Central Aransas, UIW, Houston Baptist, Sam Houston State, ULM, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UT Rio Grande Valley and host Texas State.
THE LINEUP
Slaughter will compete in her second tournament of the season. Making her collegiate debut at the UCF Challenge, the Houston native fired a bogey-free 70 in the First Round of that tournament on Jan. 31 and tied for 57th.
Martinez will make her season debut at this week's tournament. The Alvarado, Mexico, native finished third among the Cougars a year ago with a 73.00 scoring average and added four rounds of par or better.
She posted a pair of sub-par rounds and tied for second individually to help lead the Cougars to the team title at the Mason Rudolph Championship and tied for 15th at the Cougars' own ICON Invitational.
Martin will make her collegiate debut with the Cougars after an award-winning high school and junior career at TMI Episcopal.

Following the Texas State Invitational, Houston will play host to its own ICON Invitational on Feb. 22-23 at Golf Club of Houston.
The Cougars welcome an elite field, including Baylor, Kent State, LSU, Michigan State, North Texas, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Purdue, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas State and Texas Tech.
From there, the Cougars will tee off at the Clover Cup at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz., on March 13-15.
