Big Second Inning Leads to Win over Tarleton State

Cougars score five runs off four hits in second inning
HOUSTON – A five-run second inning propelled the University of Houston Softball team to an 8-0 win over Tarleton State on Monday afternoon inside Cougar Softball Stadium.
The five-inning victory marked the Cougars' (3-3) third run-rule win of the season. Houston's two home runs against Tarleton (0-6) is also the third time this year the Cougars have hit multiple bombs in a single game. Redshirt infielder Sarah Queen got the offense going with a solo blast in first, while junior catcher Kati Ray Brown sealed the deal with a two-run shot in the third.
Monday's contest also saw a stellar performance in the circle from Houston's staff with sophomore Megan Lee tossing four innings of two-hit ball and sophomore Logan Hulon striking out the side in order in the fifth.

KEY INNINGS
1st | Queen sent a 2-0 pitch over the centerfield wall to quickly put Houston ahead by a score.
2nd | After Brown singled home sophomore infielder Britaney Shaw, a walk from freshman outfielder Paige Lott loaded the bases for sophomore infielder Paige Hulsey, who cleared the bags with a single of her own. Once Hulsey advanced to third, a bloop single from junior designated player Bethany Busch scored Houston's fifth run of the inning to take a 6-0 lead.
3rd | Shaw led the inning off with a walk, which was followed by a two-run blast in left-center from Brown to score Houston's seventh and eighth run of the game.
5th | Sophomore pitcher Logan Hulon needed just 10 pitches to strikeout the side in order and seal the win for the Cougars.
